Our Montessori Toddler House has two classrooms serving twenty-eight children from the age of 18 months until they are ready to move into one of our Primary classes, (around the age of 3 or the September following the third birthday). All toddlers attend five mornings per week.

Throughout the day the children engage in hands-on activities, scaled to meet the unique needs of this age group. In this uniquely prepared Toddler environment, children learn about their world through self-directed exploration that encourages concentration, independence, self-confidence and self-motivation. We focus on social awareness, self-calming, and internal pride in each accomplishment. Positive guidance, modeling and redirection are ways we encourage and gain appropriate behavior. By speaking simply and positively with the children, we are able to steer them gently in the direction of cooperation.

Diapering and toileting procedures are opportunities for independence, self-help and self-confidence. A self-serve snack area is open throughout the morning, offering numerous practical life activities, such as spooning, pouring juice, and dish washing. Various activities are integrated into our program to encourage self expression and creativity, such as yoga, cooking and baking, art, and care of plants and animals.
